Texas’ continuing deadly streak

A sad reality of motor vehicle accidents is that they sometimes result in deaths. Unfortunately, it has been a long time since Texas has had a day that didn’t see any such tragedies out on the roads. In fact, you have to go all the way back to early November 2000 to find a day without any fatal crashes in the state.

So, this November marks the 18th straight year that there has been at least one traffic fatality a day out on Texas’ roads. Why do you think Texas’ traffic fatality streak has continued for so long?

Over the course of this continuing deadly streak, over 66,000 people have lost their lives in Texas motor vehicle accidents.

Fatal car accidents can come about in many ways. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the top causes of such crashes in the state include:

  • Alcohol
  • Speed
  • Lane crossing

The continuing prevalence traffic fatalities have had here in Texas underscores how critical it is for drivers to act safely out on the roads and to be on the lookout for motorists who are behaving unsafely.

The state has a campaign aimed at encouraging drivers to help break this streak, called the “end the streak” campaign. What do you think it will ultimately take to bring this streak to an end?

Fatal car accidents and other serious motor vehicle crashes deeply affect families here in Texas. Families who are dealing with the aftermath of such accidents can reach out for support when it comes to legal matters related to seeking justice and fair compensation.
